Hello everyone, my name is Marisa! Originally from the US, I have been living in Kyushu, Japan for the past few years. When I am not discovering new parts of Japan and taking photos (IG here!), I spend my time learning about Japan’s culture and traditional arts. 

On July 25th, I was honored to participate in a trial run of a new Beppu walking tour led by Artist Katsu Masamitsu. This program was unique in that participants were able to meet first-hand, artists currently living and working in Beppu.

Touring different parts of the city such as the Kiyoshima Apartment and Kitakouka Shotengai, we saw the studios of different artists and learned about their creative endeavors.

Music, traditional arts, fashion design, and more – it was exciting to see so much talent and art all in one place. For those who want to learn about art, or are thinking of living in Beppu themselves, this is a great tour to join!

Beppu is easy to access from Fukuoka on the express JR train from Hakata Station. The tour begins right in front of Beppu Station.
